Representatives of ACFIC, six regional FICs, DIHT and SEQUA
discussed in detail project objectives and implementation procedures for a
possible second project phase during a two-day planning workshop in Beijing
which ended today. DIHT and SEQUA intend to use the workshop results to prepare
application documents for further funding by the German government.
The Chinese and the German side agreed on four project
objectives and related indicators to measure success in reaching those
objectives:
Further development and utilization of the information system and marketing
of the information products. Indicators: (1) the number of monthly page views of
the ACFIC web pages grows by at least 10 % annually; (2) before the end of the
year 2002, at least 200.000 members have been entered into the database; (3)
marketing of the information products yields sufficient income to cover the cost
of regular database updates.
Specific workshops for entrepreneurs.
Indicators: (1) at least five series of workshops on economic and business
issues with a total of 300 participants have been carried out; (2) presentation
material has been developed for these workshops and may be obtained by
interested FICs.
Support of international business contacts of Chinese
enterprises, especially with Germany. Indicators: (1) at least 50 entrepreneurs
participated in delegation visits to Germany and talked with at least 80 German
enterprise representatives; (2) the FICs improved the quality and number of
consulting services for enterprises on foreign trade and investment
issues.
Improvement of the ability to supply services and to represent and
protect the legitimate rights and interests of member enterprises. Indicators:
(1) at least 20 leaders and staff members of FICs were informed in Germany about
tasks and function of western chamber systems; (2) a workshop on an economic
policy issue has been jointly organized and received recognition in politics and
society.

Zhao Yuelun and Jia Fengzhen of the ACFIC Membership Department, Xing Jianguo
and Li Shanhai of the ACFIC Information Center, Niu Yong of the Liaoning
Provincial FIC, Yuan Qing of the Hebei Provincial FIC, Liu Shuxin of the
Shandong Provincial FIC, Xu Qiang of the Yunnan Provincial FIC, Cao Hexi of the
Handan City FIC and Xu Mingliang of the Linyi City FIC. The German side was
represented by Ingrid Ott and Helmut Schoenleber of DIHT and Dr. Ralf Meier of
SEQUA. Zhou Shengkun of CIAD Beijing, Gao Aihe of MPI China, He Chunru and Chen
Fangquan of the DIHT Project Office supported the workshop.
